ABOUT Article
In the recent weeks, public attention has once again been drawn to the border tension between Cambodia and Thailand, particularly in the Emerald Triangle Area or commonly known as Mom Bei. The situation tragically escalated on 28 May 2025, when an armed incursion led to one casualty from the Cambodian side. The tension, however, extends beyond territory disputes, and is deeply rooted in history, national identity, sovereignty, political significance. In some cases, it also tests how nations respond under pressure. Cambodia, rather than escalating the tensions or resorting to arms, has chosen to pursue peaceful path. By bringing the case before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), Cambodia asserts that its defence lies not on confrontation but adhere to a rule-based order.
